The day you begin story6/12/2023 No matter how long you’ve been drawing you just have to keep working at it, keep trying and if it doesn’t feel quite right, trust that inner voice. It’s an ancient art form that goes back to drawing pictures on the walls of caves and I can assure you there is magic in the process of drawing. That is where my own journey with our book began.įor me, sketching is thinking with my pencil. I was determined to do my part in this collaboration to bring visual voice to the encouraging message. She had crafted a story that children could both relate to and translate into their own voice and for me, this made all the difference. In a flash, I was sure that kids who felt alone would find comfort in her reassuring words. I couldn’t help but see myself, my own child and many children in that story. When I read Jacqueline’s manuscript, words triggered memories. This story is inspired by a poem in her powerful memoir Brown Girl Dreaming about her own great grandfather William Woodson, the only black child in an all-white school. The spark for this book all began with an amazing writer, Jacqueline Woodson who by the way, can only write in her notebook sideways. This coming week, I’m trying to stay busy as it is also the release for our new book The Day You Begin. The end of a long summer and that approaching first day catches you by surprise. This morning over pancakes I tried to calm my son’s butterflies and gather school supplies as a new school year begins.

The Healers' Road by S.E. Robertson6/12/2023 Rone must have been reading a novel or some philosophical text after dinner. The windows of this house were half-lit, as if by a lamp or two deeper inside the rooms. She was having quite a bit of trouble knocking. She had come halfway around the world to serve her time as a charitable agent she couldn’t indulge in silly things like carrying a letter like a talisman. Now, as the lamps flared to life in the houses up and down the street, Agna decided that she had been childish to carry the letter along. She had brought along her old friend Rone’s most recent letter, slipped safely into an inside pocket. Last update: January 2016.Īgna stood outside a stranger’s door. Including, perhaps, themselves.Ĭover art © RLSather. Two strangers, two years, one mission: Travel the back roads of an unfamiliar country and heal those who need to be healed. He only wanted to spend some time alone, make himself useful to the foreigners as a medic, and make up for the things he’d done. His choice was bleak: ship himself overseas, or be shut out by the man he loved. It was just a side project on the way to taking over her father’s art agency, of course, but she eagerly awaited the opportunity to use her education and prove that studying to be a magical healer had been worthwhile. Agna had looked forward to her overseas assignment for the last four years.

First blood by david morrell6/12/2023 In the author's introduction of Rambo: First Blood Part II, Morrell explains that he had no idea a film sequel was in development until he read it in the newspaper (authors seem to be the last to know). Mostly, Rambo is a more arrogant, cocky kid in the novel and at the end of the book ***spoiler alert*** Rambo dies. That book is much different than the film, as I explained in my review. Morrell authored First Blood in 1972, the book from which the 1982 blockbuster film was derived from. It's a spellbinding commentary if you love the films as much as I do, but for a casual reading fan Morrell's involvement and writing experiences about creating a novelization of the script was just so captivating. You don't need to be a Rambo enthusiast or fan. I highly recommend reading, or listening to the audio book edition, if you love books. What's interesting about the reprint is the author's lengthy, detailed explanation of how he became involved in the project. In 2016, Gauntlet Press, in collaboration with Borderlands Press, re-printed David Morrell's novelization of Rambo: First Blood Part II.

Bound by S.J.D. Peterson6/11/2023 Tackett tracked the phone number Rocco called from, found by using his years of computer experience, and Blake got a friend to do surveillance to locate exactly where Jamie was being held. Blake knew about kidnappings after his Eli had been taken, so it was Blake who kept Tek from going out of his mind with worry. Blake, Ty, Tackett, Micah, Max, and Aiden were all with him at the club, but it was Blake who ran the show. My heart was in my throat - mostly for Tek - because I lack patience, and I knew the waiting around to get the intel was killing him. I learned at a young age that while all of those things make life both more interesting and exciting, its how much you are loved that really matters.\" \"Some think its how much fun you have, your net worth, or the notches on your bedpost that define a good life. The fact that the author did a vignette of each of the couples from the first three books right at the beginning, emphasized to me that this book was going to showcase the family I had come to love, all of them, showing what it meant to be bound to a family of your choosing. I knew it had to end, eventually, but I really wasn't ready. The entire time I was reading 'Bound', I couldn't believe it was the final book in the series.

Halloween II by Jack Martin6/10/2023 Dan Challis ( Tom Atkins) gets called in to treat Harry Grimbridge, a horribly beaten toy salesman with a Halloween mask in a death grip who mumbles ominous warnings in Challis's presence. The film starts a week before Halloween, when Dr. Halloween III attempted to accomplish the task, but ended up meeting with a massive backlash from both critics and a fanbase hungry for more Michael following the success of Halloween II. This premise came about when Carpenter, director of the original 1978 film, decided to make a film in line with his original vision for the series - a yearly anthology of unrelated films centered around various aspects of Halloween. It is notable among the franchise's entries for not featuring central antagonist Michael Myers in the film, and is still the only Halloween installment to do so. Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a 1982 Sci-Fi Horror film and the third installment in the Halloween franchise, written and directed by Tommy Lee Wallace with franchise co-creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill returning as producers. |
